Responsibilities

Summary: The PYP Homeroom Teacher plays a vital role in the education and development of primary students within the IB Primary Years Programme. They are responsible for creating a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment, implementing the PYP curriculum, and fostering a love of learning in their students.

Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Planning and Delivery:

• Implement the PYP curriculum, ensuring alignment with IB standards and objectives.

• Collaborate with grade-level teams and subject specialists to develop and review unit plans, incorporating transdisciplinary themes, key concepts, and inquiry-based approaches.

• Design and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to diverse learning needs and styles.

• Utilize a range of teaching strategies, resources, and technologies to enhance student understanding and engagement.

2. Classroom Management:

• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes a sense of belonging, respect, and collaboration.

• Establish clear expectations and routines for behavior and learning, ensuring a safe and supportive atmosphere.

• Foster the development of social-emotional skills, responsible attitudes, and learner profiles in students.

• Manage student behavior effectively, providing guidance, support, and appropriate consequences when necessary.

3. Assessment and Reporting:

• Use a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor student progress, growth, and understanding.

• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their learning and development.

• Collaborate with colleagues to moderate and standardize assessments, ensuring consistency and fairness.

• Prepare and provide comprehensive and meaningful reports to students, parents, and relevant stakeholders on student achievement and progress.

4. Student Support and Differentiation:

• Recognize and address the diverse learning needs, strengths, and interests of students through differentiated instruction.

• Provide support and intervention to students who require additional assistance, adapting teaching strategies and resources accordingly.

• Collaborate with learning support specialists, counselors, and parents to develop and implement individualized learning plans, where necessary.

• Foster a growth mindset and encourage students to take ownership of their learning through reflection, goal setting, and self-assessment.

5. Collaborative Engagement:

• Collaborate with colleagues within the PYP team and across grade levels to enhance curriculum coherence and vertical articulation.

• Participate in team meetings, professional development activities, and collaborative planning sessions to share best practices, discuss student progress, and refine instructional strategies.

• Engage in ongoing professional development to deepen understanding of the PYP philosophy, pedagogy, and subject-specific knowledge.

• Establish and maintain effective communication channels with parents, providing regular updates on student progress, curriculum, and school events.

Job Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in education or a relevant field. A master's degree and PYP certification are preferred.

• Proven experience in teaching within the IB PYP or a comparable inquiry-based educational framework.

• Strong knowledge and understanding of the PYP curriculum, its components, and pedagogical approaches.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

• Ability to create an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

• Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students.

• Technological proficiency to integrate educational technologies effectively.

• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of current trends in education.
