Responsibilities
Summary: The IBDP Economics Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a deep understanding of economics among students in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. They facilitate engaging and rigorous lessons, guide students in developing analytical and critical thinking skills, and prepare them for IB assessments.
Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Delivery:
• Deliver well-structured lessons based on the IB Economics curriculum, ensuring alignment with the program's objectives, standards, and assessment criteria.
• Incorporate a range of instructional strategies to promote active learning, critical thinking, and application of economic concepts.
• Facilitate discussions and debates to encourage students' exploration of economic theories, principles, and real-world applications.
• Integrate technology, multimedia resources, and case studies to enhance students' understanding of economic concepts.
2. Assessment and Feedback:
• Design and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate students' understanding and application of economic theories and concepts.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students, supporting their growth and improvement.
• Prepare students for IB assessments, including Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, and final examinations, ensuring familiarity with assessment requirements and strategies.
3. Differentiation and Individualized Support:
• Recognize and address the diverse learning needs and strengths of students, differentiating instruction to cater to individual learning styles and abilities.
• Provide additional support and guidance to students who require assistance, ensuring equal access to the curriculum.
• Collaborate with learning support specialists and counselors to develop individualized learning plans for students with specific needs.
4. Classroom Management and Environment:
• Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters students' engagement, collaboration, and intellectual growth.
• Set clear expectations for behavior, participation, and academic standards, consistently enforcing them with fairness and consistency.
• Manage classroom resources effectively, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.
• Foster a culture of inquiry, critical thinking, and open discussion, encouraging students to explore economic issues from multiple perspectives.
5. Professional Development and Collaboration:
• Engage in continuous professional development to stay abreast of current trends, research, and best practices in economics education and the IB Diploma Programme.
• Collaborate with colleagues within the economics department and across disciplines to promote interdisciplinary connections and holistic learning experiences for students.
• Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and assessment moderation activities to ensure coherence and consistency in program delivery.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of the economics curriculum, sharing resources, lesson plans, and instructional strategies with colleagues.
Job Requirements
• A bachelor's degree in economics or a related field. A master's degree or higher is preferred.
• Proven experience in teaching economics, preferably within the IB Diploma Programme or a comparable international curriculum.
• Strong knowledge of economic theories, concepts, and applications, with expertise in both microeconomics and macroeconomics.
• Familiarity with the IB Economics curriculum, assessment practices, and subject-specific requirements.
• Excellent instructional and classroom management skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with students, colleagues, and parents.
• Technological proficiency to integrate educational technologies effectively.
