Responsibilities
Summary: The Head of Mathematics Department is a leadership position responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and implementation of the mathematics curriculum within the school. Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Development and Implementation:

• Collaborate with mathematics teachers to design engaging and rigorous lessons that promote inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ensure the integration of technology, real-world applications, and interdisciplinary connections in mathematics instruction.
• Monitor curriculum implementation, provide feedback to teachers, and recommend adjustments to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
2. Instructional Leadership:
• Provide guidance and support to mathematics teachers, promoting professional growth, instructional best practices, and effective pedagogical strategies.
• Conduct regular classroom observations, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities to enhance teacher effectiveness.
• Foster a collaborative and supportive culture within the mathematics department, encouraging the sharing of resources, ideas, and expertise.
• Lead and facilitate departmental meetings, fostering discussions on curriculum planning, assessment practices, and instructional strategies.
3. Assessment and Data Analysis:
• Develop and implement effective assessment strategies and tools to measure student learning and progress in mathematics.
• Ensure alignment of assessments with IB assessment criteria and standards.
• Analyze student performance data, identify trends, and implement strategies to address areas of improvement.
• Collaborate with teachers to develop and use formative and summative assessments to monitor student achievement and guide instructional planning.
4. Student Support and Engagement:
• Support students in their mathematical learning journey, providing academic guidance, individualized support, and enrichment opportunities.
• Monitor and support student progress, identifying and addressing individual learning needs.
• Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment, fostering student engagement, motivation, and a growth mindset in mathematics.
• Collaborate with guidance counselors and other support staff to provide necessary resources and interventions for students who require additional support.
5. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
• Collaborate with other department heads and school leaders to ensure cross-curricular integration and alignment of educational goals.
• Engage with parents and guardians, providing regular communication on students' progress, curriculum updates, and resources to support mathematics learning at home.
• Foster positive relationships with external stakeholders, such as universities, professional organizations, and the broader mathematics education community.
Job Requirements
• A Master's degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in teaching mathematics, preferably within the IB framework and the specific IB Mathematics courses (e.g., Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation).
• In-depth knowledge of the IB Mathematics curriculum, assessment practices, and subject-specific requirements.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teachers and students.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, parents, and external partners.
• Experience in curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment strategies.
• Analytical skills to interpret student data and inform instructional decision-making.
